Notes From the Band
"These songs are all about overcoming adversity. I wrote the fighting song "Shadow" for anyone who feels they are a shadow to someone. You may feel invisible but your own essence still shines through the shadow. You are so bright, people do see you so you have to believe that and fight for yourself and Katzen will fight for you too.
“Try” – was penned at a low point in my life. My piano Sally has always been there to help me through any severe emotional time. When I was pregnant with my daughter before I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, I had gone to a class and the teacher asked me whether I felt I was going to be a good mom. Something in me didn’t feel that I would be a good mom and it scared me and made me feel bad. It made me feel worried for my daughter and I wrote “Try.” You realize during the song, “we choose this together you and I,” it’s about letting down your guard. We with fibromyalgia don’t always easily accept help from others. However, you really show you are strong when you say, I can’t do this and I need your help. There's a chord that runs through the entire song and never stops until the end of the ballad….it’s a metaphor to never give up.
“No Such Thing” is such an epic and uplifting song. It even has a Ganesha chant. Ganesha is the Hindu Lord of Success known for removing obstacles and I think that is just perfect for the song. It's about looking at things from a larger perspective. When I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia it was hard and there is no cure but now I am passed that and I am seeing that this is part of my journey in life and I need to take something positive out of it and help others. There is “No Such Thing” as a coincidence in life so look for the reasons." - Tamara
Now through MARCH 31, 2010, one-third of the KatZen proceeds from Overcome will be donated to the National Fibromyalgia Association, a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing and executing programs that improve the quality of life for the millions of people with fibromyalgia.
Featuring the songs “Shadow,” “Try” and “No Such Thing,” Overcome is the breakthrough album from innovative new rock group KatZen. Lead singer Tamara Cimmerian uses her four octave range voice to acknowledge the battle of fighting against hardship to claim the life you are meant to lead. The lyrics offer a helping hand and a message that true strength can be found in reaching out for help and we are all in this together.
As a Fibromyalgia sufferer, Tamara wrote Overcome to bring hope to people in all types of distress. She knows how alone a person can feel who is struggling and often uses music as an outlet to help relieve her chronic pain.
“Anything that is too immense for me to express in words I express through the piano,” says Tamara. “If I didn’t have the piano and my music I am certain my fibromyalgia would be even worse, the emotions would stay in my body and wreak havoc.”
Overcome has a universal melodic sound that will appeal to music lovers from all genres and includes the beautiful ballad, “Try.”

SHADOW
I would kick in sides for you -- and I would smash in smiles for you -- I'd do my worst my very best for you -- and I would take the look of death for you -- (CHORUS) you're more than a SHADOW -- the shape of your shade shows thick through thin -- who gives what they think?-- they're worse then blind they're ignorant -- they have not the capacity -- to see what you and I can see (CHORUS) why do you take it? don't you take it don't you take it no more -- you're not the rug you're not the floor -- don't you take it don't you take it don't you take it no more -- (CHORUS)
TRY
Oh it's all in your head -- that's what she said -- and it's the truth -- you know it -- and it's all up to you -- whether you choose to listen to it or not -- (CHORUS) and I TRY and I try to make it stop -- all the voices that say you're not good enough -- and I TRY and I TRY but they won't stop -- and I know I know better -- I should be stronger -- I should TRY harder oh -- it's just mind over matter -- the strength of will power -- to ablate the ego -- (CHORUS) and I TRY and I TRY to make them stop -- all the voices that say you're not sane enough -- and I TRY and I TRY but they won't stop -- and I want you to know that it's not your fault -- and I'd do anything for you -- and somehow and somewhere -- we chose this together -- and we'll make the best of it -- (CHORUS) and we TRY and we TRY to make it through -- cause that's all that we can do -- and we TRY and we TRY -- and that's good enough -- and we TRY and we TRY and we don't give up -- and I want you to know -- that it's not your fault -- and I'd do anything for you.
NO SUCH THING
And no I don't ever want to hear that shit again -- why would you even put that out there? -- I thought you knew better -- (BRIDGE) and every thought is a prayer and every choice has a consequence -- you best send forth your awareness -- you breathe it into consciousness -- a disaster -- what? a disaster? -- well what kind of disaster are you asking for dear? -- my grandaddy always used to say -- "if you want to find trouble then just go looking looking looking looking looking for it" -- (BRIDGE) -- (CHORUS) and you co-create you're existence -- there's NO SUCH THING as a coincidence -- (BRIDGE) -- (CHORUS) and you are amazing -- when and if you believe it -- there's NO SUCH THING-- as a coincidence.
