Notes From the Band
Have you ever been overwhelmed by love in one way or another, almost overtaken by love? For “LoveLorn,” I wanted to create an experience that explains these feelings that we have all felt at least once in our lives.
A lot of people ask me how I write music and where it comes from. And, I have to say that is a really good question. It does come from me of course, but I also feel it is somehow channeled in a spiritual way. A part of me will just open up and the music will flow through me, like I am a vessel. Sometimes, the lyrics come first as if I am just writing poetry in my journal, sometimes the music shows up first when I am with Sally and just listening to her talk to me, but mostly the music and the lyrics tend to arrive together as a pair, like lovers, hand in hand.
“Haunting” is very much a song of obsession and possession. It’s not your average love song. We all have our ups and downs in love. In any true relationship there will always be a full bouquet of emotions accompanying it, balanced between the light and dark, the sweet and pungent and that’s what makes the feeling of love so rich, intense and meaningful. It’s why we love to be in love, it’s why we are addicted to it. As the mighty Beatles say “all you need is love.” I agree and believe that our highest mission is to spread and embrace love.
On “True Love” I’m basically saying I don’t need your love. I’m smiling through my teeth while singing about this jerk. It’s about this dude who had a checklist with all these very, VERY specific reasons why he didn’t want to be with me. But I wound up realizing that I didn’t need him or his version of “love” in the first place.
Finally, the truest love song on the entire album is “Lucky,” is a song I wrote for my husband. I sang it to him at our reception right after we got married. “Every day I grow to love you more, each day I see you you’re more beautiful than before…”
I honestly don’t know where that comes from, they just happen. It is experience of love for me to bring this mini album into the world, I hope that you enjoy it as much as enjoyed creating it for you.
KatZen launches their newest release “Lovelorn” revealing an intimate side from the band with love stories of wilted red roses, infatuation to sweet revenge and true love.
“For “Lovelorn,” I wanted to pick a title that explains the feelings that I got from all three songs as a whole. The songs are about being overwhelmed by love in one way or another, almost overtaken by love. A lot of people ask me how I write music and where it comes from, it does come from me but I also feel it is channeled in a way. A part of me will just open up and the music flows through me easily, I honestly don’t know where that comes from, it just does. “Lovelorn” has these three songs that talk about love in all different way.
“Haunting” is very much a song of obsession and possession. It’s not your average love song.

And “Lucky” I wrote for my husband. I sang it to him at our reception right after we got married. Each day the person is more beautiful and you’re seeing you love grow.

HAUNTING
And on the outskirts-- that's where the haunting begins-- clandestine presence-- perhaps an apparition--imbues a subtle shift in the frequencies--- of the energy-- of the surrounding air-- it makes you wonder-- was he even there at all?--(chorus) and I 'm left wanting more-- of your HAUNTING-- more of your phantom caress-- more of your musings which tangle and possess me.-- Your voice a thought form carried in on spider's legs-- a brown recluse-- who fondles my lascivious eardrum-- and sews it's seed deep inside my mind-- where there it lays and hibernates and incubates and waits and waits it's web to make to overtake my desires.--the threads they disappear into swift air-- it makes you wonder was he even there at all?-- and I'm left wanting (chorus)
TrueLove
If what you say is true babe-- if what you say is true-- why does it not compute babe-- with whom I know is you-- (chorus) it's true, love, yes it's truelove.--You cast a stone into the ocean -- and it disappears into the deep bottom, if what you say makes any sense baby-- it would've splashed trapped close to the surface.-- (CHORUS)-- I can't believe it's cause I'm not a nurse a triathlete or twenty-six-- I can't believe it's because I'm not five ten or of Frence or Possibly of Swedish descent-- (chorus)--If what you say is true babe if what you say is true, I do not need your love and I don't want you.
LUCKY
Every day I grow to love you more-- each day I see you your more beautiful than before.-- And I'm certain it's not a phase I'm going through.--No other explanation-- my soul's teathered to your's-- (chorus) Baby, you rock my world. -- Baby in your arms I'm such a lucky girl.-- We lose the magnatude when we're all caught up in the midst of it.--That's why doctors don't prescribe their own medicine.-- Oh how I seek your remedy-- your love's a sweet disease, babe-- you've infected me-- (chorus).
